I need some help fellas. I live on a 190 acre farm in northwest Georgia. Most of the land is pasture for the cattle but I do have probally 40 acres of thick woods. I've hunted this land my whole life, and I've never seen any trophy class bucks, as a matter of fact in the last 3 years I haven't seen any buck bigger than a spike, and I've only saw a few of those. I've been concentrating most of this season on hunting from my tripod blind in the middle of a pasture surrounded by woods on all sides. A litttle before dark the does start coming in and browsing but the bucks never do. There has to be bucks somewhere right? No one else is allowed to hunt this land and I'm pretty sure trespassers could not have killed all the bucks every year, so what's the problem? The thick woods are nearly impossible to hunt because you make so much noise getting in there and there aren't any suitable trees for climbing very high in, not to mention the visibility factor is about 20 yards in all directions. What can I do?

Big Mature bucks don't get that way from being stupid. More than likely they're in the thick of things. I saw a biggin this fall 3 times bow hunting. Never was able to get close for a shot, as soon as gun season hit, and the lead started flying. He hasn't been seen since. All my neighbors saw him befor gun season, and none got him after, so I know he's still there, he knows where to hide, just gone nocturnal. If you want a mature buck, you gotta get in the thick stuff. That's where they feel the most comfortable. hope this helps and good luck.

I agree with everyone else that the bucks are in the thick stuff. However, I wouldn't recommend just going in, which will likely spook the bucks. Set-up as close to the cover as you can with the wind in your favor and you should be able to find some bucks.
