question about my deer i shot at
I got myself a deer last wednesday. The deer did not jump or any thing. I thought I had missed the deer. When I did shot at it just ran into a group of trees I lost sight of it at that time. Did not hear any crashing or anything. So I sat there for about 10 mintues. Something told me to go over there and look about 300 yards away from my stand there laid my deer. I did hit the deer sort of low. When I gutted it I saw there was a gazed area out of the heart. I thought normally the deerjump or something when they are hit. How do you know for sure you made a kill. So thought I had missed.

So let me get this straight, if you shoot at a deer and it runs off, you assume you missed? If the deer doesn't "jump or something" you normally don't bother to look for it?

Anytime you shoot at a deer, you should always look to verify that you hit or missed. ALWAYS look for a bloodtrail or other evidence that you hit the deer. And ethical hunter will always go above and beyond his ability to recover a dead deer or to find or kill a wounded animal.
A guy in our camp wounded a deer last week in the morning of the last day of our hunt, and he spent the whole rest of the day looking for his animal. In fact he was the last guy to come off the mountain and get in the truck.
