bflem55,
Did you take the time to place your stand in a good location, meaning you scouted the area to know that deer will more than likely past with in this general area?
Are you being aware of your presents and taking caution to your personal sents/oders and the direction of the wind. Try to keep the wind in your face and don't be affraid to take your stand up more that 10ft. If the tree is a strong one and your sight won't be obstructed take your stand up to 20 plus feet, this will help with eliminating your sent and help void any detection of your movement.
Be still and be patient, this is very important. And know that you may not see deer all the time for many different reasons.
The longer you can stay in your stand the better. Try using some deer attractents like doe pee and esterous, learn rattling and grut methods, this can help in getting some deer with in your sight.
Read some articles and learn. Get out there and be still, patient and enjoy your seroundings.

Making sure you are in a good spot, by doing your scouting before you hunt is the key. Scout from a distance where you won't spook the deer, like a high hill or a treestand with binoculars. Are there rubs and scrape nearby, is there a trail leading to a food source? Is the food source still there? One thing to remembner is that at this time of the year deer are moving from their summre range to their fall home range. That could be as little as 1/4 mile to 5 + miles away. Make sure the deer are still there. If you've got questions ask me and I'll try to help, I research deer, write, speak and guide for
a living.

Bflem55,
Yes, cut that branch that's a normal practice in hunting especially when using a climbing tree stand.
Try and do this before you go out hunting. The advantage of a tree stand is that it gives you the ability to get out of the sight of the deers point of veiw and really helps in stopping deer from catching your sent, given you take the stand high enough. Be carful those, take your time and be sure the tree is a stong one and wont blow over in a good wind.
I tipicaly take my stand more that 20ft at times 35 plus feet, remember, make sure the tree is sterdy!
Good luck!

why did you put your stand there? is it near a food source? if so is the food source still producing? Is this a cluster of trails? is this a border? do you cross the deer trails getting to the stand? were the deer does or bucks? fronts coming through? anything else changing in the environment?
Hey, size may not matter but it sure IS nice!
