difference between P&Y and B&C
Hello everybody,
This is my first time to post a message so please bear with me. I have been reading the posts for about a week now and find there is some great info beeing exchanged you guy are all great, I think the funniest topic was about the female unmentionables!!!
Anyways for my question not that I'll ever be lucky enough to kill a deer to be considered to score in either class but what is the difference and why do they have 2 standards for scoring or am I just a blomin idiot.
I've only been hunting for about 3 years now and have been fairly successful the first year I killed a button buck rifle season, 2 years ago I killed a spike buck with my bow, and last year I killed an 8 pointer big deer small rack rifle season,no luck bow season.
I live in central Mo and hunt in Benton county I've seen some nice bucks here but the meat comes first. Anyway can anyone help me with my question.

midmohunter, welcome to the board! If you have questions just jump in.
As far as the differences between the two clubs, I`ll give you the quick version.
Pope-Young= animals must be harvested under fair chase rules with a bow, traditional or compound with no more than 65% letoff. Minimum score for typical whitetail is 125".
Boone & Crockett= Pick up horns, hit by car, shot with any legal firearm, shot with bow, crossbow, any legal weapon. Minimum score for typical whitetail is 170"

RE: difference between P&Y and B&C
Both must adhere to a 60 day dry period and be measured by a authorized scorer. World recorder must be measured and conveyed by a Panel of judges.
P&Y only allows Archery enteries (no crossbows) of 65% let off or under and it has to be harvested by archer with a fair chase form completed and signed by the archer.
Min are as Follows:
Mule Deer typical - 145
Mule Deer non-typical - 175
Whitetail typical - 125
Whitetail Non-typical - 155
www.pope-young.org
B&C is any weapon, also road kill, sheds, etc can be entered.
Min are as Follows:
Mule Deer typical - 190
Mule Deer Non-typical - 230
Whitetail typical - 170
Whitetail Non-Typical - 195
www.boone-crockett.org
All scores are net after 60 days drying period and subject to the reveiw panel.
While Boone and crockett will allow non-harvested deer in it's record book for historical reason, only legally/Fair Chase harvested animals can hold World Record Status.
So in a nutshell the P&Y book is for Archery Guys only, while the B&C is for high end deer taken with any weapon of choice(but really tailored to gun hunters) Many other record books and clubs are available as well these are just the noticable and famous books.

RE: difference between P&Y and B&C
The only missing piece, although implied is that they both use the same scoring system (which belongs to Boone & Crocket).

RE: difference between P&Y and B&C
I am sure P&Y does not register any crossbow kills period. Also, B&C gives world record status to non-harvested/pick-up animals. I believe the world record non-typical (the Missouri Monarch) was found dead and before that "the Hole in the Horn" was the world record, also found dead.
