2005 buck

RE: 2005 buck
Here's the story. A buddy decided to take me out to a new hunting area he knew about. Only problem was he backed out the morning of because of car problems. He gave directions of how to get there and said goodluck. I got out there and started looking for an area to sit in with my climber. I found a nice funnel on the edge of a thicket surrounded by mature white oaks. I actually pushed out a deer walking in the area. Anyway, got into the tree and decided to try rattling. Within 5 minutes, I had a small four point around my stand. He lingered around eating acorn for 30-45 minutes. After he was out of sight, I rattled again and a small group of does passed through the area. About 9 AM, I rattled again and set my bow down to get a quick drink. Mistake! I heard something breaking brush to my left rear and thought to myself, "this is when a nice buck will walk through". Sure enough! I slowly grabbed my bow, drew, and waited for a shot (he had turned my direction after I drew). I waited about 20 seconds and he began checking scraps again, stopped at 25 yards quartering away, and I fired. I watched the deer as it ran off and noticed the arrow had not passed through (99.9% of the time they have in the past). I figured I had a good shot on him and the arrow must have stuck in the opposite shoulder. He stopped about 25 yards from where I shot him and then took off again. About 5 minutes later, I heard him crash. I decided to wait out the 30-45 minutes just in case. Anyway, got down and went to where I shot him - no blood. Went to the last place I saw him - no blood. Took about 10 steps from there and saw his white belly. He ran off a total of about 40-45 yards from where he was shot. I was using a 4 blade Muzzy 100 grain. The deer ended up being an 135 lbs 8 pt. This is my second year bow hunting (usually gun/ML) and first antlered buck. One hell of a feeling!
