RE: How do you count points?

i agree with the boone and crockett scoring the point must be 1 inch long... and i say a 4x4 or 5x5 because if u have an 8 pointer and its 5x3 your gonna get deductions because its not a true 8 pointer.. if you score it typically ur gonna count them as deductions and subtract them at the ened to get your net. if you score your buck non typically. then you wouldnt subtract the points. atleast thats what i have learned from the boone and crockett score sheets..

RE: How do you count points?

Out west we count them as one should, a three point has three points each side not counting brow tines, so it would be an eight point back east. Half the people out here, however, will call a three point a 4x4, but nobody ever counts all the points. The reason brow tines are often not included is that half the Mulies out west have no eye gaurds.

RE: How do you count points?

my buddy takes a ruler with him and if he's not sure if it's a 1" or shorter , he waits till the buck passes him , jumps on him and piggy back rides him so he can measure the tine. j/k

i guess i count all of them.. if they are pointy they count ;). then again 10 ptrs here are rare ... i have seen 1 shot in the past 3 seasons around here where i hunt..most of them are 6 or 8 's
