RE: How do you count points?
I use the B&C standard which requires a point to be at least 1" in length.I then call a buck a 4x4 or a 5x5 and give an approximate B&C score.I don't call them 8 points or 10 points to try to make the antlers sound larger.

RE: How do you count points?
Mule Deer are counted by one side eg-4 pt mulie
Whittail are counted total 4x4= 8 pt whitetail. |
RE: How do you count points?
Its not a 6 point or an 8 point or a 10 point...its a 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 - gives an idea of what the rack is like. Symmetry is usually implied, but not always happens when using the point total method.

RE: How do you count points?
an eight point is an eight point in my book. whether its a 4 point(on each side), a 4x4, or a 5x3.
legally, it has to be 1", but if im counting points, if its a point its a point, doesnt matter the size. who wouldnt count brow tines? that rediculous. they are points jsut the same. do drop tines count as negative, because they point down?:D oh, and i count em a few times, to make sure i didnt miss any. |
RE: How do you count points?
I go with the B&C rule of a point must be at least aninch. I describe the right and left side ie:4x4, 5x6, etc and B&C score to give as accurate picture of the rack. If he has character such as kickers, split brows, drop tines I throw that in as well...again to better paint a picture of the animal.

RE: How do you count points?
I count mine by one side, so like a 4X4 would be a 4 point to me. if it is a 4x5 then thats what I call it a 4x5. Thats just the way all my family has always done it so thats the way I do it.
|
RE: How do you count points?
I count all of them, and I've never heard of only counting one side.
