While hunting this weekend, I witnessed two different deer (doe), after they spotted me, look at me and make a loud blowing noise over and over again. Has anyone ever seen this? I wasnt sure if it was the deer trying to get me to moce to figure out what i was, or a call to her yearlings?
Any thoughts?

Deer blow, snort what ever you call it when ever they are alerted by something hunter or other critter's, when they snort what they are doing is cleaning out there nasal passages then they smell for new info on trying to figure out what you are deer rely on their sence of smell and hearing, wait until they are behind you and you either didn't hear them or you dozed off and they snort you can climb a tree in less than 2 second's.......good luck

Deer blow/snort when they are alerted by some sound or site.

If the deer hear's you but does not see and keeps blowing and you do not answer. The gig will be up because if you are another deer you would snort back.
You blow/snort back matching call for call like turkey hunting. Hopefully the deer will settle down allowing you to get to your stand or set up.
I witness this twice. Shot at a doe that had a yearling with her when I shot the went in different directions. Started snorting back and forth until the meet up.
Second time 3 does edge of a clear cut thicket in a field feed all of sudden raise heads and started looking at thicket then started snorting. Then snorts started coming from the ticket about 60 yards in keep going until two does meet up with the other three.
Had a huge problem in the place we hunt. Deer are all around us in the morning, it got so bad we were running deer off to get to the stand. Defeated the purpose of food plots and hunting.
I started blowing/snorting when the we had around 7 deer in all different directions. Had a few walk away a little fast but none ran. Even had the snorting stop and and could here them walk around. Allowed two of us to walk to the stand and ended up watching five deer walk by in the dark and two stay around till daylight.
That was three of four years ago and do it when I get busted walking by sound but never by sight. Has worked many times. Even friends that I hunted with thought it was crazy at first to use a alert/panic call know some of them do it to.
Has anyone ever tried this to?
