RE: Bolt or Semi Auto??

I have both--a Remington 742 and a Rem Model Seven--and I prefer the Model Seven. Why? It comes down to weight. The 742, in '06 with a 2-7x33mm Leupold on it, weighs very near nine pounds. My Seven, in .308 with a 3-9x40mm Bushnell (and tunnel mounts), weighs a lot less. I have thought about putting that new Leupold (the 2-7x28mm) on the Seven, for the weight savings. When you go over the hills and swamps in the eastern Adirondacks like I do, you want a light rifle.

The bolt is more reliable and on average more accurate
DITTO!
- accuracy can be an issue too -
bolt action because of it's simplicity and accuracy.
Ordinarily I would say a bolt action for their accuracy
I always hear about the accuracy difference between a bolt and a semi-auto.

i use a 30-06 BAR which is VERY accurate, as accurste as a bolt, but if i didnt have that exact gun id say bolt.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The BAR 30-06can in fact VERY accurate. Depends onlucking out andgetting your hands onthe right gun. The one I used to have would shoot MOA or better all day long, with occasional extremely tight groups.

Here is my best 100Yd group ever....shot with a BAR 30-06

Yes Semi Auto's can be very accurate; however, overall they are not as accurate as a bolt action. If they were, you would see them at the bench rest matches.

With all that said, I now use a Rem 700 Mtn LSS in 7mm-08 which I switched to primarilly for the weight reduction.

Only one of the five deer I've taken has required more than one shot. However, I took two of those (the other four) deer within a minute of each other, so the 742 did its job rather well then.

I would pick a bolt action easily. They are far more reliable.

a bolt action,I hunt mostly out oftreestands and the noise issue of a semi keeps me taking my bolts over a nice Belguim browning .270.

As long as your accurate.. you could use a spear...whatever works for you is what im saying. your poll is probably split 50-50..whats that tell you???
