Wow..my jaw is still on the floor
Decided to hit the fields tonite in my jeep with some binos and a rifle for coyotes, just to see if i could catcha yote out for an evening saunter. I had hit the neighbors fields, and was just commentating to myself that i'd probably see something in this little alfalfa field surrounded on 3 sides by corn, forming a U. I looked over, and Wham! deer. I slammed hte breaks, grabbed the glasses, and got on it.
It's probably the second largest deer i've ever seen in the wild(largest being a 196" gross 10 pointer in iowa, 187" net i think). From what i could see in the 10 seconds that the buck stood there, I think he had 10 points, possibly a drop tine for 11(the backround was tough to distinguish from the sides of the rack). I estimate he was 20-23" inside. All tines besides the brows were in the double digits. Overall, i think a 170" gross buck. Didn't look extremely heavy, but whocares when you have that length and spread. we're going out tommorrow nite and buying another Cuddeback digital camera, and i'll probably get it out whenever i can get out without disturbing the area. I'm going to tread lightly around there, not pressure him at all. One of those moments you'd really like to have a good camera along. I will defintely pass along any pictures i get of him.
