Hey All ,
I went scoutin the other day and i was in my boots and jeans and t-shirt and walked around the road bed and strated back out and got busted ! I didnt see the deer i only heard it blow at me !
So i have only been too this area 1 time ! and been thur the feild a few times ! I have no stand hung as of yet it was 3 in the evenin when this happened . Ok now my question is i know where these deer are and coming from ! What would be a good time too go in their and hang my stand ,also from now own i will be in camo and scent free ! But will this scare off this deer or other deer ??
Just tell me what i need too do ! Also its on top of a ridge , should i start and go up the ridge or walk around and go up the other side ??
Any help !
Thanks Alot ,

In my opinion, you don't have a problem. Go back and get your stand hung, then get out and don't go back until season. I don't think getting busted once is going to ruin your spot. I will say that some deer populatons are more sensative than others to human activity, but this is early scouting and, on my place, deer movementpatterns will change before fall anyway.

Id say you dont have to worry right now, the deer will still be there during your season, if your going to hang a stand hang it around noon time, i usally have no problem getting busted around that time,i usually have no problems cause iam in the woods alot where i hunt so my scent is always there so i feel that to there use to me, and havnt feel threating, if your worryed just keep the wind at your face wear rubberboots and gloves when putting up your stand, if you feel theres good sign there then use it , but when the rut comes they will change their paterns, and you have to adjust to them!! hope that helps you?

I agree not to worry. Even if you spooked them bad I doubt they would abandon their home range for long. I'd think they'd avoid the spot for a day or two and stop back to check things out.
I have a tree stand and a ground blind in a couple of acres of dense woods around our cabin. I drug a bunch of wood pallets out there two nights ago and formed the blind. I had a doe and her twins watching me. The next night, I went back to camouflouge the blind - nailing dead tree bark to it and covering the hard lines with variou branches and brush. I had another big doe watching me the whole time. They seemed more curious at what I was doing than frightened. I almost had to yell at them to get them to leave.
I would have rather built the blind this during the day when it was less likely they'd be around but the evenings are the only time I can get out there. And hopefully the blind will become a part of their everyday routine by the time the season starts in a few months.

You might want to check for some signs that this could be a bedding area. Bucks have a tendency to bed on just below the ridgeline where they can see, take advantage of the updrafts, and then disappear over the ridge top at the sign of danger. If it is you need to find a trail that leads away from there and make sure that when you approach, the deer can't see or smell you, or hear you for that matter.I hunt in the mountains of N. Georgia, when I'm not hunting in the swamps of SC, and then later in Al. It is tougher hunting on these ridges because of what I just described, so you really have to pay attention to the wind currents and how, and where you approach from.Look for a trail on top of the riddge and on ethat intersects with other ridgelines in a 'bowl' between ridges. This forms a funnel for the deer and since several trails coonect, does and bucks use them, and later when the rut is on, it's a great place to be.
