I'm with GooseHunter Jr.

Although I've only been on a single 2-day hunt and didn't see any deer, I enjoyed the experience. It sure beat sitting in front of the TV for those two days.

Meat ... strictly meat. I don't have room for trophies on the wall, and wouldn't hang one if I got one. (This is not to imply that I have any problem with others who hunt for trophies - it's just not for me ...)

I take my share of does through the season for meat. In the last 5 years I have really challenged myself to wait for a mature buck before releasing a arrow. In my mind for a shooter would be the 125" minimum for P&Y.

I would rather shoot a mature doe than a inmature buck, gotta let them grow to get big.
AMEN!!! Why in the world won't more folks think like this!!! Why is it difficult to grasp the concept for many??? Take a Doe so the herd won't grow and let the lil' ones walk! Unfortunately, many folks still think that it is a "macho" thing to blast that lil' yearling 6 pointer just so they can blow to their buddies at the local Pub that they "got their buck". [:'(] [:@] Of course the number one excuse for shooting an immature animal..... "I'm a meat hunter". My question is always, "Why in the heck wouldn't you have taken a Doe then?"
This brings up an interesting debate. When looking at the known whitetail history in this country the healthiest and most abundant herd were kept in check by natural predators and elements. Did they pick and choose? We have now taken their place and are seeing problems erupting across the country. Seems to me that if we are going to take their place we should follow their lead. Nothing wrong with making hunting as much of a challenge as we want but I think we should be thankful that there are those who are not as picky, for the good of all.

We all brag. Some people brag about not shootimg a spike or a four or six point or an eight or ten or twelve point, some even about not taking any at all. Is making a person not be thankful for the animal they've harvested good ethics? I don't think so. It is an anti hunter mentality and is disrecpectful. (Said while mulling the issue over and with no one in particular in mind).

Meat. I've got a big freezer to fill.

Obviously a nice buck is a plus, though.

I can hunt for different reasons all in one season. I can hunt for the pure fun of everything thats invloved in a deer camp and not shoot anything. I can set out on a hunt on intentions of getting meat, and I can set out on intentions of bagging a bruiser.
Im a hunter.
