I prefer to do the majority of my scouting late season or shortly after the season ends.
This time of year I'm out with my spotlight (legal where I hunt) and I'm looking for big deer with good growth on their head. Figure out where the buck you want to kill lives and attempt to formulate a game plan from their.
Depending what type of land you hunt you may find (as I have) that the deer travel pattern will change as fall approaches and prefered food sources change. This is why I prefer to scout durring the late season and after the season ends. The deer typically will be back into those same patterns once the season rolls back around.
