FilmFever i applaud you for stepping up. I didn't have a problem at all with you opinions i think it's just the way it was stated or the way it came across. I do like what i saw with your video, keep it up, you are right when we start forgetting to give the glory where it's due we lose it all. I also appologize if i came across harshly. I wish everyone all the success they can have. And praise the Lord we can all get along and talk it out like adults. :)

Now if we may, back to equipment LOL. I am not looking to spend $5000 dollars on a video camera at first. I have been looking for used on ebay and other such websites. I was interested in opinions. What would be a good older camera that I can start out with and get into the swing of things. I am currentlylooking ata cannon xl2. What are your insights and what factors go into picking a camera. RememberI am brand new to the camera world.

I would highly recommend the Sony PD-170. Very durable camera that can take some beautiful footage when operated correctly! You can pick one up new for around $3,000.00 and used for between $2,000-2,400.00.

Spend the rest of you're money on a Sennheiser Wireless ($550.00), a good camera arm ($250.00-500.00), Camera Head ($100-180.00), a rain cover ($100.00), and a good tri-pod ($150.00). This will get you what you need to take good footage with good audio.

Also - the Sony is 10x easier to operate than the Canon's (IMO). Very common sence set-up!

You might also look at getting a sony pd-150. Very similar to the 170 but not as expensive. I have the 150 and you can not tell the difference. You can get one on ebay from 1500-2000. then look at the accesories that Todd put out there.

I just recieved my PD-170 yesterday in the mail. I bought a used one with 43 hrs on it from a guy who films for Jay Gregory. Its in Id say 95% new condition with one or two small scratches on the body and mint glass. I ended up getting it for $1700 shipped with origional box and paper workand a transferrable B&H extended warrenty that is good til Nov. 09. Id put a post on sites like Huntingnet and Kisky letting it be know your looking for good used cameras. Thats howI came accross this one.

Like Flip13 said a Sony PD-150 is a great camera also and a little cheaper than a pd-170.

Well Looks like Ill have to start saving some money. My streetbike and fourwheeler just went up for sale yesterday. I love my speed and dirt but it doesnt compare to hunting, Sohopefully they will sell so I can start filming soon. Thanks for the advice guys.

What's the model # on the Sennheiser? Also, do you guys use the wide angle lens that comes with the PD-170 (I've heard it isn't the best). What about the stock shotgun mic...is it adequate as well? Thanks in advance!

Sorry guys, one more question...do you rely on camo tape to conceal the camera or do you use a shroud or netting? I've been using an old headnet for myhandheld camera, but I wondered what worked best for the PD170? Thanks!
