Hey Illinois guys...

Were planning our final trip to Illinois in January. Just wondered generally speaking how is the hunting then besides cold? Do you usually have snow on the ground? What feilds do the deer prefer? Are they all yarded up? Do you even see bucks? Any info/opinions you can give us is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys Mikey.

2 things to consider. Food and cover - that's it. Find the thickest nasiest stuff you can, and set-up shop! Setting up over food in the evenings are you're best bet. Other than that - AM hunting is tough this time of year. Deer just are bedded up before light. Tough hunting....

Mikey,
If you are hunting near Walt or near that location, they usually do not have snow. But it will be cold, they do get some ice in that location. We have alot of ice right now and some snow less than 2 inches. Todd, is right, find the thick stuff and you are getting close. It is very hard to get on a buck in the am. I did see a good one this past sat am but they are hard to get close. Evenings are usually better find the food and thick stuff. I hunted a cut corn field last night and saw 3 does. IF you can find standing corn or beans you will be in luck
Give me a location of where you are going and I will try to get you more info
