Can anyone put me in touch with someone who has given up hunting, for whatever reason -- too expensive, not enough places to go, whatever it is. I'm a writer working on a story about hunting and am searching for a former hunter. Can anyone help? My e-mail is [email protected]

I don't think very many people make a conscious decision to give up hunting though how much hunting they will do at times can be quite variable. When I was a youth I hunted a lot but after going away to college and starting a career I hunted very little due to lack of time and opportunity. I have now reached a stage in my life where I have a little more time to do the things I like and I now find myself hunting much more. Things could change and I might not hunt as much in the future as I do now but I really do not foresee circumstances in which I would consider myself a "former hunter".

I know one hes my wifes uncle, he used to hunt all the time till he lost his leg to cancer. now hes a butt lovin tree huggin hippy who thinks hunting is stupid because you can buy food at the grocery store. but the truth is he is to lazy to try to hunt and finds its easier to hate the sport while sitting at home smokin dope and talking to his tree hugger butt lover friends on AOL. If it were me I wouldnt stop hunting due to loss of a leg you bet your sorry butt Ill be out in the blind in a wheel chair shoot id hop on one foot to the blind just to say i was out there hunting. My wifes uncle is the biggest dumb*** ever.[:'(][:'(][:'(]

In my own opinion, no one consciously 'gives up' hunting. The only time anyone stops hunting is when they are no longer physically able and even then I know many hunters who are wheelchair bound, missing limbs, terminally ill etc. This isn't a hobby you give up after a few months for whatever reason....this is a way of life. Hunting has a deep connection to all of us going back thousands of years. Something ingrained like that just doesn't stop burning in your blood all the sudden. For the majority of hunters the fire never goes out and many hunt until they are very old and in some cases their dying day.

Brutal Attack,
I don't always agree with everything you say. But, I believe that you have very wise advice here. Your knowlege and wisdom should be heeded as a warning and a wise one at that.

I agree with elkcrazy8, and hopefully there will be a happy hunting ground even after my spirit has passed this world. Can't imagine existing w/o hunting and fishing. I believe it would be to your advantage writer73 to explain your purpose a little better if you want any cooperation. Are you still out there?
