WA hunters...
Just curious to see how everybody did during archery or rifle season (deer/elk)?
|
RE: WA hunters...
Well, I didn' t have any luck hunting these blacktails over here this year. They are few and far between over here. Pretty sad actually. But my dad and I are heading over east the mountains these weekend for 5 days and trying for a whitetail. We' ll see how she goes. Is the hunting any good over this year? Seems like it usually is. We hunt just North of Newport....However, I did strike luck with a nice bull. 3X2 with doubles. Nice alder polish on' em...Anybody else do any good??.....Oh yeah, Mod. Fire all the way, lol.

RE: WA hunters...
i got a 3x3 mulie this year not to wide but its ok, opening pheasent season the 18th was really killer scared all the deer to crap and barely saw any the next week trying to help my cousin fill his tag
|
RE: WA hunters...
I shot a decent 4x4 mulie but didnt get anything for elk. Unit 372 has a any elk season nov 22- dec 31 so im going to try and find some property to hunt. Its tough though cause everything is private. If anybody has any connections out towards the hanford area i will gladly take any info if you wish to give it out.

RE: WA hunters...
Glad to hear that some filled their deer tag and some filled their elk tag. I didn' t filled my deer tag this year. I went out to the Lincoln unit for deer, but I didn' t see any.
|
RE: WA hunters...
I did ok elk hunting, got a 3x4. Our group of 8 got a total of 3 cows and 2 bulls and we still have another cow tag for December. I have been trying to save my deer tag and not chase the blacktails around here because I was drawn for a late mule deer tag in Alkali A. Went scouting there Friday and saw 44 does and 8 bucks. I cant wait for opening day on the 27th.:)

RE: WA hunters...
ORIGINAL: yajsab Just curious to see how everybody did during archery or rifle season (deer/elk)? Lets see here; filled my deer tag, my MR elk season is over, bear season is closed, now what does that leave me for options??????????? Hell yes, Ive still got my COUGAR tag to fill- hopefully we can fill it on Saturday!!!!!! If not--------can you say " COUGS to Rose bowl!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, we did get 2 spikes in camp on our Colockum MR season. Also, we had 2 Quilomene "any buck" permits in camp-filling only one due to "circumstances" we only were able to hunt 3 of the 18 day season,. Any other year we'd have been able to hunt much more of it. Sure do wish we could have, Since I settled for a lesser animal than I would ever have before. |
RE: WA hunters...
I took my first deer this season. It was a 3x4 blacktail and I shot it last saturday. I spent most of the season bear hunting and only saw two, but didn' t get a chance to take them. I haven' t tried predator hunting yet but I am going to learn and maybe even try for cougar.

RE: WA hunters...
I took a fine Doe in Mid-October during the General Modern Firearms season.:D
|
RE: WA hunters...
Members of my hunting party got a cow and a doe in Eastern Washington.
|
RE: WA hunters...
Well, these are the results of my 2003 season. Idaho deer on the left, Washington deer center and Washington elk on the right. All in all not a bad season.

RE: WA hunters...
Congrats to you and everyone else. Nice mully!
|
RE: WA hunters...
Tag soup for me. I shot at a big doe this morning, but after having the cap fail to go off twice, I wasn't really expecting the cap to go off when I pulled the trigger the third time. Third time's a charm because it fired, and I missed a broadside shot at 60 yards because I flinched. You gotta love muzzleloaders in wet conditions. Sad thing is I could've shot another doe while I was looking for sign from the first shot, but I didn't risk shooting 2 deer. Oh well, time to get ready for turkey season.
|
RE: WA hunters...
Hey slee, Was that in the area that we were talking about with the closed gate
or another place? And yes its time to start doing some serious scouting for them turkeys!! |
RE: WA hunters...
Scout for turkey..??...Not a real good time right now for that around here....since every field ya go by has a big ol flock sitting in it
|
RE: WA hunters...
I wish it were like that were I will be scouting!!!
|
RE: WA hunters...
Yes Shaun, it was in the little weed patch down on the left just past the fork in the road. I'd spooked deer there earlier this season before legal shooting time, so I wasn't caught off guard by them being there. Still hate that I didn't connect. I was in that area a bunch this fall, and I never saw a turkey track, feather, or any droppings. We'll have to discuss that a little more later.
Wayne, stop rubbing it in!:( The only flocks you see over here are the ones people are feeding on private land. I'm gonna try to locate some private land to hunt this spring, or at least some less-pressured public places that actually have birds. I'd be more than happy to do the calling for somebody if they have such a place to hunt with birds on the west side. My hunting partner has taken 2 birds in 3 seasons of me doing the calling on the east side, so I guess that is a success rate of some sorts. If anyone wants to take me up on the offer, shoot me an e-mail. |
RE: WA hunters...
Slee....yep....most of em are on private field's.....but most of the field's are butted up against state or federal land....geeeez...I'd let you call for me anytime:)
|
RE: WA hunters...
Wayne, what the hell are you talking about? I've been trying to call a turkey in for you for 3 years now, and you just can't seem to fit me in to your schedule. I'll give you advanced notice on exactly where I'll be hunting, and you are more than welcome to bring your gun on by for a hunt. The calling's on me. Me and my hunting partner will hopefully be hunting with Bldhound and his much better looking hunting partner down at Addy again.
I've invited my brother, cousin, and buddy that hunted with me 2 years ago to come out from MS, but they probably won't come. Since my brother did Wilderness Survival School in the Lil' Pend Orielle WMA, he refuses to tent camp in WA. Something about mosquitoes the size of B52s. I keep telling him them there aren't any during turkey season. If they do come, I'll probably hunt the powerline area up by our camp in Kettle Falls so as not to wear out our welcome on Bldhound's private land honeyhole. You just can't turn too many Southerners loose in the turkey woods, or all hell breaks loose. You can be sure we'll have a good time.:D |
RE: WA hunters...
Hey Slee..."mosquitoes the size of B52s"...Bet if any of our Alaska hunter's are reading this thread....they must be laughing their head's off...there they are about that size........How come a gotta bring a gun..??...Can't ya call em in close enough for my bow..??....lol [>:]
|
RE: WA hunters...
Wayne, if my partner wouldn't be in such a hurry to shoot, there's no telling how close I could call them. If you and I can actually get together for a hunt, you can bring your favorite rock if you want, and I'll do my best to put him in your lap. As soon as I decide if I'm coming early or late season, we'll have to start talking seriously about it. Fred is always making other plans when I come that way to hunt turkeys too. I'm starting to get a complex. Ya'll got something against rednecks?
I've never had a problem with mosquitoes while turkey hunting over there on the east side. We do have a decent reference for BIG mosquitoes though. I don't think Alaska has a thing on the Mississippi Delta. Something about thousands of acres of flooded rice fields and Summer nighttime temps in the low 80s that really pack those skeeters in. If they don't tote you off, they'll suck every drop of blood out of you. They think DEET is a pheromone. Bldhound can back me up on this. |
RE: WA hunters...
Slee.....sound's like a deal to me..:D..We'll make for sure plan's when ya have your date's figured out.........as far as them pesky mosquitoes....Every Texan I've ever talked to...does nothing but brag about how "Texas alway's has the most and biggest of everything"....so guess they'll claim this title also [>:]..........I lived in Georgia for 9 year's....so guess ya can classify me as a hick/semi-redneck
|
RE: WA hunters...
I got a 3x3 blacktail, it wasn't nothing huge but it wasnt small. I had my eyes on some bigger bucks but never did see them so I had to take the 3point in extended buck. O Well there is always next year.
|
RE: WA hunters...
Congrats WaBlacktailHunter! At least you tagged something. Meat's meat.
Wayne, I could tell you'd had some culture at some time. You've got "Good Ol' Boy" qualities, even if you don't talk like one.;) I'll keep you posted on trip plans. |
RE: WA hunters...
Hey goodgoing WaBlacktailhunter.
Was that around the Elma area? |

RE: WA hunters...
Slee, I'll back ya up on that. Until you've been giggin in the delta on a nice balmy night.......................heck you just can't tell someone, you have to have been there!
I'll be sure to keep you posted on the Southern Deer Extravaganza 2003. I willl post picks of anything of interest, I'll even let the better looking hunting partner be in the picks. She told me today Slee that she thought her Christmas present was a ground blind so I wouldn't get PO'd during Turkey season from her wiggling around....................just like a woman to think crap like that!!! Hummmmm I do have time to buy one of those from Cabelas before the 25th though! LOL Come to think of it, I like the way she thinks. |
RE: WA hunters...
Slee....."Good Ol' Boy" ....Let me tell ya...I was the class of the pack...Drove a broken down pick-em-up with my gun rake in the rear window...dressed up in blue jean's and my best T-shirt, and topped it off with my baseball cap...Had my 13" Beagal....and drank BPR......Hell...I even ate grit's...:D
|
RE: WA hunters...
Damn Wayne, I had no idea you were that experienced in the ways of Southern living. As I'm sure you found out, we do things a little different. Good old Pabst Blue Ribbon...that's right up there with Milwalkee's Best. And grits. I'm getting homesick.:D
|
RE: WA hunters...
I got me a pick em up truck with a gun rack in the back and a CB radio
I wear my wranglers and a camo ball cap. Does that make me a "good ol boy" too!!!? :D |
RE: WA hunters...
shaunpmr ...Depend's.....do you say.."You All"....or..."Ya'll"..??..How old's the pick-em-up..??...and is there some sort of shooter in the rack..??. Them Wangler's faded, and have a round circle faded into one of the rear pocket's..??
|
RE: WA hunters...
You've gotta have the lingo down, and you can't learn it in school. They won't let you.:D It also carries a certain attitude with it. You show respect and good manners to everyone until the point you determine it isn't deserved, then they go out the window(the respect, manners, and maybe the person). I personally don't wear Wranglers, but it's a comfort thing. I prefer Levi's. Dipped just about everything for 15 years, but I quit 2 years ago. Now it's the occasional chew of Red Man or a cigar with my beverage by a campfire. I never got a ring in my back pocket, but I never liked sitting on my can. I don't have a gun rack, but I have a deep tool box that'll hold whatever gun or bow I decide to bring along with a bunch of other crap. See, we come in all varieties. You don't find many in the city for sure. We like our space.

RE: WA hunters...

It ain't always how old your pickem up is but how big it is ,and the ol' can ring might just be in the front pocket of your "Bibs".;) |
RE: WA hunters...
:( Just curious guys-gals;
I'm I the only one on here that forgot to report hunter success in Wa. too late to take a grab at that "permit" carrot? Just realized 2 weeks ago I had not reported so finally got it done :)Also, Went snowmobiling on the Colockum last week and had a GREAT time:D. Sure is a beautiful place in the dead of winter. with great scenery and terrain for climbing and riding. I have learned a lot more about that game reserve in the last few years that I ever did in the previous 30. Have a Great one...........................S. DAWG |
RE: WA hunters...
I just moved over here to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho about 6 months ago from the Olympia area, anybody on here hunt the Olympia/Shelton area?
I'm having an extremely hard time figuring out if I want to claim residency in Idaho or keep it in Washington until the end of turkey season! It's coming up fast and I still dont know what to do!! |
RE: WA hunters...
IDRedneckGirl,
We mainly hunt the East side unless you want to share some of your Olympia/Shelton area spots, so that some of us coasties can hunt during the week. Would be glad to trade info with you on spots in your new neck of the woods. |
RE: WA hunters...
Hey Bldhound, do you know where the Capitol Peak/Forest is? I believe it's about 56k acres that has some really good hunting. Parts of it are way overhunted, but if you spend the time getting away from the people there's a lot of animals up there.
