Coming to CO
Hey Guys, I will be heading out to Englewood/Denver (This is a last minute trip so sorry of the last meinute request.) later today and I was wondering if the Elk have started to bulge yet? If so can you tell me of a State Park or area that is within a short driving distance from Englewood that would afford me the opportunityunity to hear/See one. I have never had the opportunity to see or hear one in the wild.

Bootlegger,
You can head up 285 towards Conifer and over to South Park in the afternoon and hope to see them in what meadows are left along the road. You may or may not hear them bugle. The best bet would be to head up to Rocky Mtn Nat' l Park and around Estes Park. They' ll be coming out of the trees in the afternoon and be bugling this time of year.

Artic, the bulls will probably still be bugling some into Oct. They usually are. But, after a few shots go off, they get quiet pretty quick. The guys in the group that I have hunted with the past, shot several bulls during second rifle season that they heard bugle and moved in for the kill. Be out early in the mornings and listen, when you hear a bugle, move quick and try to intercept the herd.
