Default Food Plots

Want to know if anyone has any experience with planting food plots in the west. I have some leased land in New Mexico and looking to improve on the deer and elk habitat. Any helpsuggestions would be appreciated.

We dont really call them "food plots" in the west. We call them farms. Think thousands of acres....not a hundred or so. The "plot" I like to elk hunt is 77000 acres.

I thought they were called ranches. What are you a transplant from the east? You surely couldn't be a cowboy!!!

Born and raised Colorado. Hunt deer and antelope on farm land. Family farm land....no ranch. 12000 acres give or take plus several surrounding farms.

Any other thoughts about a part of the country you clearly know nothing about??
