We had a scare the other day in the apartment here. A couple hours after we woke up in the morning, our heater/ac blew a line and released heavy amounts of freon gas into the apartment. It was thicker than a steam room. Tammy was at school, and I was on the computer when I noticed the gas appear out of nowhere. I grabbed our 4 year old out of her room, snatched up the 6 week old off the couch and took off to the front office. We told them our heater wasn't working right over a week prior, but they didn't come to look at it and this ended up happening. Glad it didn't happen while we were sleeping, we might not have woken up. The smoke detectors did not go off of course, and the gas was mostly odorless.

One more reason to hurry up and get back to Alaska. I'm getting tired of this desert cess pool. I head back to Prudhoe on the 7th, so I'll get a reprieve for a little while.

Phish, let me know if you start running low, we have plenty more.

Hey Jeff, found out it wasn't my gut, but astrained ligament between my hip bone and pelvic bone, I'm on physical therapy for a while, and should be back to 100% soon.

Here he is, pretty dark hide on him, but he has a nice white pattern on his chest. He weighed in at 35 pounds. I'm thinking about doing a rug on this one, I already have two full body mounts.

Here is the first one I got, amid 30pounder...

...and the larger 45 pounder I got about a year ago...

Not personally, but I've heard reports that they're out.

I also heard that F&G in Anchorage has already sealed a few brownies this spring.

Won't be long.

My son and I had a good Spring Black Bear hunt this spring .
We did a walk in hunt here in Alaska in the Kachemak Bay area .
We hiked in about 5 miles and I was able to take a nice 6 1/2 foot blackie with a perfect hide , no rubs what so ever .The taxidermist already has the hide .
I was able to get the bear to stop walking away from me .
When he stopped to take a look at what the noise was he sat down at an angle and uphill away from me . He had to lean a bit to look through a couple bushes to see me and when he did I took him.
One shot at 77 yards right through the heart and out his back .When the bullet struck he did a back flip and was dead befoe he hit the ground .
I used my Smith & Wesson Preformance Center 10.5 Revolver and my 700 Grain Thumpers .
The first pic is of me and the big boy.
The second pic is of the bear on it's back with one of my 700 Grain Thumpers beside the extrance hole .

This was my son's first bear hunt .
I just pulled a spring 2007 permit for a Kodiak brown bear.
The wheels are already turning !!!!!

Have fun on Kodiak. I killed a nice brownie there this spring. I can't wait to go back.
