RE: Alaska Thread

Dang, sounds like one thing after another. They usually come in threes though, so your truck, the camcorder and the camera should be it, then your luck will turn for the better.

The bou are starting to show up again. Not very many, but they are scattered. Got word back from a guy in IL that came up for a week and they both got their bulls but had to work hard for them. They shot theirs down by Toolik, then the next week several hundred caribou were all over up north, about 20 miles from town. I' ve put stalks on around 40 mile, didn' t see a dang thing through the mountains though. We are headed out tonight to see if we can' t pull one down. Cows are on the hit list now too.

If you found that camera for 3K please let me know as I will return mine. I thought I got a good deal on it from searching around. With all the add on' s, I' m up to about 4.5K on the set up, and I' ve got another 500 or so to drop on a good tripod and some more tapes. Then comes the editing equipment, new computer and so on, which will run about 4K more. It' s gonna be pricey, but hopefully I' ll make it all worth it in the next couple of years. I figure since caribou might be by drawing permit up here next year, I should start up a new hobby from bowhunting. [&:]:D
I plan on filming our Colorado elk hunt in a few weeks, then I' ll bring it back up here and try to get some more wildlife footage. I scrapped the other gig of helping get footage for the documentary. Figured I' d save my favors from contacts up here for my own job, not somebody elses.

Here' s another image that I captured the other day. These are some ducks out on the arctic ocean taking a bath.

things come in 3 for most people, for me they never end lmao!!!

DRAWING? Where in same heck are you hearing this. God forbid the ABA puts in a proposal for it! Fill me in!

It looks like I am headed up this weekend, not sure when I am headed back to fairbanks, I' ll let you know how it goes.

Just letting the sarcasm run thick. Who knows what changes are in store for the northern region for next season after the BOG meetings this winter. I' ll hopefully make it through town for the meetings, at least a day or two, but need to figure out what my work schedule is first.

There hasn' t been a shortage of hunters up here, just bou. There are camps from 30 mile all the way down to Toolik. Saw about 13 trucks on Saturday, and at least 10 of them had drivers in camo.

I' ll see what I can find out tonight on the caribou and let you know. They' ve been scattered though, and the guy from IL mentioned that the bulls were fighting back in early Sept. It' s snowy and cold out already, and was single digits the second week of Sept. while he was here. Don' t think the rut could of happened that early, but who knows?

I really hope the ABA pays more attention to the northern region this year. I plan to put a little pressure on them to do so. It should be another action packed year of proposals. :D

jeez dude, their was NO ONE up their. Actually two groups that bugged out between sat and sun.

Holy moses man, who in sam heck did the bear drawing proposal. Saw 6 stinkin bears. Between what few sheep we could find in the snow and the bears we managed to barely beat that with what few bou where there. Thanks for the warning on your last day out LMFAO! Let me know when you get some time or hear anything about any movement up their.

Btw, we had a soon to be couple with us. He works on the slope, was wondering if you knew him being he is a bowhunter. He is a rough necker by the name of Aj (Adam). not sure of his last name but he is soon to be married. Drives a silver dodge diesel dually and drives like the typical slope runner. Either stopped, or WIDE OPEN!!!

Sorry about the non-update. Took 11 hours to get home, and finally got in at midnight on Thursday night, then had to spend some time with the baggage claim office because the idiots didn' t tape up my cooler, and it was wide open with my stuff all over the place when it came around the belt. Looks like I lost my knife set, a pair of jeans and some thermies, but can' t see remember what else was in the cooler, so I' m not sure if it is missing, or if I left it up north.

We saw three bears that last night out, as well as a bunch of musk ox, but no caribou. Pretty barren up there. I know a guy named aj up in Prudhoe, not sure if it is the same guy though, did he say where he worked?

Hopefully they will reconsider that bear drawing this spring. I' d like to see how many of the bowhunters that got the tags actually got a bear. I didn' t hear of one coming off the slope this year.

He said he was a roughnecker??? Not sure what that is but he is on the same schedule as you.

I hear ya on the bears...cant say I heard of any myself. I' ll try and find out some info for ya this week on numbers IF their is any.

Gotta scoot, I' ll write more soon.

ABM- WELL I KNOW THERE WAS A REAL PRETTY BEAR AT 50 MILE TEARING UP TENTS AND GEAR GOT INTO MY STUFF TWICE. HOPEFULLY ONE OF THE PERMIT HOLDERS CAME BY THERE AND CULLED HIM I WAS REALLY SUPRISED THAT OF ALL THE PEOPLE CAMPED THERE AND PEOPLE LEAVING MEMBERS OF THERE PARTY IN CAMP TO KEEP THE BEARS OUT AND STAYING UP ALL NIGHT FIRING OF GUNS TO SCARE THE BEAR AWAY THAT SOMEONE DID NOT POP HIM BEFORE THE SEASON.
PLUS SOMEONE NEEDED TO VENTALATE THAT ONE THAT CHASED ME FOR OVER 200 YARDS. NOT MANY FOLKS CAN SAY THEY OUT RAN A GRIZZLY FOR 2-300 YARDS TO GET AWAY FROM ONE.

What a pain nimrod. I' ve seen more bears this fall than all of the last three years I' ve been heading down the road combined. Sure wish that 1/4 mile and the bear drawing wasn' t in effect this year, sounds like we all would of had great chances, and gotten rid of some issues for hunters and campers along the road.

I take it from you not posting a picture of the black widow on a sheep that you didn' t have success at taking one this year? At least you got the nobby bou. :D Are you back up north now?

Off to Colorado in 10 days to see if I can' t put my old 30-06 to use. Next year I' ll hopefully get a chance to go after elk with the bow again, but my first bull might be taken by a nosler partition instead.

Nim - Did you ever sell your boat, Pat? If you didn' t move it, I can put the signs up again down here if you' d like. I sure wish I could afford it, it looks pretty comfy with the large cabin and all for staying out in a nice harbor for the weekend, but I think I' ll have to stick with buying and re-powering old beaters! lol :D I' m thinking I may refurbish and re-power a 25-foot Glasply starting later on in the winter (you know, something to take up my spare time and use up my spare money). ;)

BTW, has ABM transformed into VBM again?
