Default Success in Nov, AZ coues deer

I made my first kill in AZ while hunting solo this fall. It's not big, even for a coues deer, but it was a good shot that I'm proud of at 225 yds, and it was my first season hunting solo here. I finally got the pic into my computer, so here it is for what it's worth.

mwaite,

Congrats on a fine Coues buck...it's a lot harder to hunt them than most people know.

Thanks guys. AZBEAR, they certainly are difficult to hunt. After growing up hunting midwest whitetails, I sometimes wonder why I work so hard for such a small animal. But after I got the spike in '06 and this one I have my answer, it just really feels like you earned it. I used to take deer for granted back home because they were everywhere and it wasn't a challenge to put venison in the freezer. You just went out and shot a fat doe, sometimes several of them. Hunting for antlers was a little different. I logged many hours sitting in a tree, oftentimes with nothing to show for it but tag soup and humble pie. My point is, if you wanted good meat, it wasn't usually too difficult to find a doe to shoot. Out here, doe tags are basically non-existent, and bucks are not easyto locate sometimes, at least within range. So the small amount of venison I DO get off of a coues is much more appreciated and savored because there was a fair amount of blood and sweat (literally!) involved in the harvest. I also used to say a little prayer after I took a deer back home. Now I PRAISE GOD when I get one! If anyone was within earshot in that canyon while I was field dressing that little guy, they would have thought there was a tent meeting going on in the mountains. At any rate, the meat is tasty, and I can't wait to go out and tromp through the cactus next year looking for another. AMEN!
