Default 01/11 WA turkey trap

Anyone planning on attending the turkey trap this next weekend in the Deer Park area? How about the State NWTF meeting? I missed last years, but will be at this years if all goes well. I've released birds, but never trapped them. I saw video's of last years trap, and it looked really interesting - hope to see some of ya'all there.

I think some were released in Yakima from last year's trap, so I don't know if that improves the chances, lessens the chance, or has any bearing what so ever. But, no, I'm not sure where they are going to release them. If they are released to improve a huntable flock size, I'll try and find out during the trap where they will be releasing them.

Back from the turkey trap and relocation that took place in Deer Park. Managed to net 23 turkeys (6 toms and one bearded hen). All of the birds were taken and released in the Okanagon county. More might have been netted had it not been for a deer that started wandering into the net zone. When those rockets went off, that deer turn tailed and ran, with the net falling down right behind it. The 23 turkeys flushed like a covey of quail or grouse, right into the net that was falling over them. What an experience! I would recomend getting in on this kind of experience - WDFW said w/out the NWTF volunteers, there is no way to possibly do it (cost too much money and resources).

Hey WANWTF, sounds like a cool experience. When is the next one in this part of the state? I was tied up this past weekend, but I'd like to help sometime. Keep us posted here on the board. If you get a chance, e-mail me sometime. I'd be interested in getting together this spring to hunt a longbeard in the jungles if you'd like. I can't hold out 'til I head east in May, so I try to get my gobblin' fix along Johnson Creek on days when the parking area isn't crowded. Too many rigs, and I'm headed back home. I've actually been there twice when I was the only rig there, and I heard birds waaaaaaaaay back in there. Gotta get a better map.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

Slee - You mean there are times when there isn't a lot of hunters in Johnson Creek? Actually, I wouldn't mind taking you up on that offer. Just noticed you are from Puyallup as well - that is where I go for my NWTF chapter (my dad lives down there). I don't know when the next trap will be as of yet, I do know they are not planning a release on this side until after they pay off the loan on the release they did 3 or 4 years ago over here - I think the balance is still $100,000. If I remember correctly, they released 300 easterns up and down I-5 corridor. Don't know if you are going to the sportsman show, but we'll have a booth there if you want to stop bye at the fairgrounds and say "Hi"

Man, my wife couldn't keep me away from down there if she tried. As far as Johnson Creek crowds go, I was actually there twice last year when I was the only one. It seems to be open more later in the season, mid-week, and when the weather isn't the greatest. If you want, we'll get together for a hunt somewhere. My time is limited, but I'll take any opportunity to chase a tom around the woods. Maybe I'll see you at the show.
