Default Non-resient hunting in MT

I'm heading to MT for a week next year and would like to get ina litle hunting while I'm there. Gonna be in the western part at Paws-Up resort. They have a guide service and I'll proberly take 2 or 3 days for that. Proberly go for bear. No deer or moose since we got those here. Yeah we got bear too but they're a lot of pre-hunt work. Any suggestions to prep as far as permits/licenses, etc?

Put the good folks at Paws Up to work for you on the licensing questions. One of their good employees nearly ran me off the road last weekend. I was camping and scouting in the mountains near their spread. Appears to me there are good numbers of bear in there, even for MT. I saw one which stood on its hind legs to check me out. Never saw that before. Saw lots of tracks and poop (yes son, bears do indeed crap in the woods)!

Just a heads up.

Montana, I was told many moons agois a state you need to have your hunters safty card and age dosen't matter. Whether it's true I don't know, But i'm sure someone here does.

Since you are going outfitted the outfitter will do all the work for you. The Paws Up isn't IMHO really much of a true Montana experience. More of a wealthy, elitist "ranch" that the owner has dumped money into. It is not a "working" cattle ranch but to each his own. There are bears in the area. Also bear tags are OTC even for NR so you could just get online and purchase them from the FWP site.

It may have changed, but I think I remember an on line test bear hunters have to take. All the test consists of is making sure the hunter knows the difference between a black bear and a grizzly. The test was on the MT game and fish site.
