Thanks for the heads up. We are just starting to plan our application and hunt to Unit 15 or Unit 16E, north of the Gila near Slaughter Mesa.Anyone here familiar with New Mexico ? I lived there for nearly 20 years but have been in the east for the last 10 years. If you have any personal information or know of someone who does and might be willing to share please post up. TIA

Wish I could give you more informatin on the hunting down there. My area is in the northern part of the state. But, the area around the Gila is known for producing good animals.

Hey Rcrawford:
The short term drought situation is over. The precipation from last summer and this winter has terminated the short term effect. The long term is stilla wait and see.
The area I hunt is unit 6A. I also am familiar with some of the Carson, too. This year should be good. The El NiƱo effect is in full swing and should provide good forage up to the summer. I am very tempted in putting in for the Valle Vidal for elk with bow.

Good to here that the country is recovering . . . I know how bad in can be when the forest is a tinder box. Valle Vidal would be sweet. I have an old friend that took a nice typical muley up in that area and all familiar with NM dream of a tag in there or the Baca . . .
