we are planning an october 07 elk hunt to the durango/pagosa springs area, does anyone know who,where i can contact to arrange for some horse rentals for packing out game. we are interested in someone dependable,reliable and what cost we can expect by the day or week.i guess you could say we need some good all around information.if anyone knnows of such a individual or outfit i would be grateful.to all have a safe and merry christmas

The one that comes to mind is I believe Sombrero. They are located all over the mountain area and will deliver and pick up. They also supply all tac.

Sombrero does lease out horses for hunting season and will deliver with tack. The only thing that I would recomend if you go that way would be not to tie the horses fast because most do not tie well and also build a big, high pen. Their horses double in the summer as dude horses at liveries. Also there are other places that lease out hunting horses you just have to dig a little harder. Ask people who hunt the area you are looking to hunt for possible hunting horses.

Try Crazy Horse Outfitters

i would try Dan @Great Divide Outfitters. Have never used an outfitter, but have heard alot of great things about him. Do not think he does pack outs, but he will point you in the right direction to someone dependable.
