I did some searching and all the info I found was guided hunts. Could anyone provide some links or info on the subject.
There will be 3 of us, all retired military and fairly experienced hunters. We haven't had the chance to hunt together since '94 due to various reasons. I would like to put together a DIY hunt (can't afford a guided hunt) in Saskatchewan or Alberta for deer.
Any info will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

2. "West" means western US not Canada. Alberta isn't even western Canada.

Brutal Attack,
Sorry for breaking the rules won't happen again. The idea behind posting here was to see if anyone in this section has done a DIY hunt. I have since found out non- Canandian residents need a guide.
By the way thanks for the geography lesson

well i would sure think Alberta is western Canada.....my b-i-l will be suprised it has moved.
Ripstop-Alberta can be hunted without paying a guide i did it 2 years ago and will do it again next year. not possible for most people.
if you know someone in Alberta they can buy a hunter host lic. $25. and can take two people that are NR. they can only do it every three years and a nr can only participate every 3 years.

Alberta is only eastern canada if you live in BC
Saskatchewan can not be legally hunted without a licensedguide. Alberta has the hunter host system as AK NIMROD mentioned. Note that in Alberta the hunter host must accompany the non-resident at all times. . The only exception is if the hunter is left on stand and not moving around. .
I believe BC also requires a resident host but i'm not 100% sure, non-canadians may need a licensed guide.

AK Nimrod & Saskabush,
Thanks for the info about non residents being sponsored by a resident.
If everything goes right it looks like a possibility in 4 years. In the mean time we will plan something stateside.
Thanks again
