What a weekend. We didn't kill anything, BUT yesterday we called in 4 different bulls. A 4x4, a 5x5, a 6x6, and a 6x7!! None of them were monsters, biggest would go over 300 in my estimation. One guy got to shoot 3 times, yes that's right. One guy got to shoot at three different bulls and he never killed an elk.A sad, SAD story for him. First time I ever met him, first time my friend, and I, ever hunted with him, and it'll be the last!!! I'venever witnessed such bad shooting!!
We had some great action, the best I've ever witnessed, BUT dam!! man, you get three shots in one day and don't kill something, you need to go home and stay there and practiceuntil.......WELL, ......until you find a new friend to hunt with, 'cause I've seen enough.
The elk weren't real vocal, BUT we did locate two bulls that already had cows. We used mostly cow calls, but we also used some treerakeing to call in two of the bulls, actually could here one of them rakeing before calling him in, and the other stopped infront of us at 35 yards to rake a tree.
Next weekend they should be fired up better. Hopefully it stays cool, although I had about enough of the rain. The snow level was probably 2000' above us! The rain did really help in keeping us quiet as we moved through the forest. We spotted bedded elk 3 different times, without them hearing us!
How was the action for you other guys!! Anyone kill?
