Hey folks!
I'm heading up from So Cal to X6A, probably the weekend of 10/12-14. Will probably come in from Reno, wondering if anyone's got any tips for accessing off the 70/49, or off of the 395 from the North East side of the zone. One of you was kind enough to send me a recommended spot via email about 2 months ago, but hotmail kindly deleted several of my emails (too much memory!) Any help is appreciated, don't need to know a 'secret spot' just someplace i can get to that's got reasonable 4x4 access and a shot at a buck!
thanks,
biffstir

hey man your lucky you got drawn!! We put in every year but havn't been drawn in 5+ years. Anyway, I'm in the bay area but we drive right into susanville and hunt somewhere right near there... I'll ask my dad exactly the location. I've only been huntin 5 seasons since I turned 12, I'm 16 now. First season I ever hunted we got drawn and went there. My dad and another guy that went with us both got deer. One was a 3x3 and one was a 2x2. There is a ton of deer up there.
so anyway, lemme talk to my dad about the exact location... it was a nice spot!

Right on! Thanks buddy! Looks like I might fly into Sac now, it's about $100 cheaper and since i'll be renting an suv for the trip, it'll help cover that. Not sure yet, still pricing it all out.
I think the last guy that gave me some tips said he got a buck or two out of susanville, as well. what's the terrain like on that side of the mountains? I used to go gold mining when i was your age on the feather river near the Malicoff(sp?) diggings. There was some steep stuff up there, beautiful country though.
Any tips would be much appreciated! where do you live in the bay area? I'm grew up in sonoma and marin and get up to my folks weekend house in clear lake whenever i'm up that way. try to fit in as many duck hunts as i can when i'm home for the holidays, heh heh!
talk atcha soon!

Got my first buck over the weekend guys! The zone was dry up high, but I picked up a nice fork down in the valley. Quite an experience! Now it's off to D7 in a week for round 2! Good hunting to y'all...

hey there, littlehuntinfool!
yeah, i know martinez, grew up in sonoma/marin and lived in Walnut creek from 93-95.
no luck in D7, though we saw a bunch of does and jumped a couple of deer that snorted at me for interrupting their naps! I'm assuming they were bucks, but couldn't see them through the dense canopy.
good luck getting drawn next year, and if you like to duck hunt, good luck with that then, too!
