The 1187 is a good gun but I personally like the Benelli SBE II the best out of all the auto-loaders. I can't convince myself to retire the Nova to spend the money on an auto, but if I did it would definitely be the SBE II.
Good luck.

Talked to several freinds and the 3.5" 11-87 has been out for 4 or 5 years .
First year or so there were problems .
Now they are reported to be fool proof . The guys say take it home and clean and lube it . It will be as dry as a bone and jam if not lubed.
3 Guys in our hunt club use them for geese.

Not for me. Three of my friends had nothing but problems with theirs. Failure to cycle with all of them and two that had many broken parts. Some people love them and have had good luck with them. Besides the poor quality. The gun weighs a ton, has an akward forward balance for me, and has less features than other guns in it's class. For about the same price there is the Franchi 912 or Winchester SX2.
If you want a gun that is for waterfowl and upland I would recommend a 3" gun. Even though I like a 3 1/2" for waterfowling I would not want to carry one while upland hunting. The 2 3/4" shell is king for the upland and some 3 1/2" models will have problems cycling the lighter loads.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I won't hunt anywhere near one of them "slam-fire" specials. Here's why....
