i had one swim into my mallard decoy spread this weekend, hunting a river in southern indiana, our game book says nothing about them, i had to research quite a bit to find info about him, they are somewhat prevalent around here from what i read, i believe the literature said 4 per square mile during migratory season, has anyone else seen one or know anything about them, kind of has me curious. thanks.

I see them all the time swiming and diving around my marsh decoy spread. Illeagal to shoot ,and yes they do add motion to the spread.
From my research they are listed as waterfowel not a duck

Always brought my Granddad good luck when they got in the decoys-seemed to be dumber than rocks but loved the activity in the spread. They wouldn't move even when we dropped ducks and the dog went in after them-used to follow the dog out.

We have one that spends a lot of time in the lake in our addition. He helps with duck identification as I watched him for a long time before making a call on him.

He is a diver and seems to be solitary.
