divers
Our season just enden last weekend but there are two days in jan. where it opens up again and I know of a spot that I would like to hunt that has alot of divers mixed with mallards. Will divers decoy into mallard dekes or should I get some diver decoys.

RE: divers
The divers will generally give you a good look and often swing right by you. We get a lot of shooting this way on a lake we hunt, the divers rip around our point giving us a look, but often intend to land in the middle of the lake. It offers some of the fastest and toughest shooting there is. Divers dekes, or at least some dekes with a good amount of white, will definitely help with divers and even puddlers. We always have a dozen or two bluebills out and believe me, you can see them from a LONG way off. If you dont have any available, you can fix some up cheaply from bleach bottles or soda bottles. Paint the front and back black, and the middle part white, then when you get out there fill them about 1/4 to 1/2 up with water so they float lower on the water and look real, and you will have some cheap effective dekes. I've used the bottles and they sure didn't scare anything off, even the wary mallards. Also, if you use some diver dekes, separate them from the puddler dekes a little in their own bunch.
