Went out this A.M. and filled my limit with 3 bluebill, 2 mallard (red legs) and a black duck. Had to break skim ice on the way out and battle howling winds all morning. Mergansers are in heavy as well as the swans. Geese by the thousands! Best part, I was the only hunter out

It has been blowing hard and getting colder here the last 2 days. I' m going tomorrow and over the weekend, I' m hoping to see some new birds from up north riding the wind down. Send ' em on!

Went out again this a.m. Howling w/nw winds. Spray from the boat ride instantly froze to any surface it came into contact with (including eyelashes!) and left a 1" coating of ice over my entire boat. It seems that last nights gales (50 mph) and plummeting temps sent most of the birds packing. Did manage 2 nice red leg mallard drakes, 1 bluebill and one beautiful goldeneye (at the taxidermists as we speak). The mergansers were in so heavy that there was not a minute where they could not be spotted. Swans also on the move again. Get ready southerners

Sorry to hear about you looking at duck butts, but not really. We start the 20th and the numbers are increasing every day. They should arrive here with a nice 65F to contend with for several more weeks. The bad part is the sky carp have been eating all the food for a couple weeks now. If possible, could you wipe out a couple hundred thousand of them for us in your afterseason snow slay?

Went out this A.M. Managed 2 mallards, 1 goldeneye and a goose. Fewer birds around than last week...still TONS of mergansers and a few swans. I would say it is winding down around here. Deer season (rifle) starts Saturday so don' t feel too bad for me
Good luck to all!
Best wishes,
YLM

Yellowlabman-
I hunt just south of you, and we stille are seeing great numbers of puddlers, so put the rifle away! We are going to see a warming trend through this week before a front hits early next week. So we still have some time...
