sound quality on calls???
I have been looking at the various duck and goose calls on the market and noticed that most of the companies offer the same calls in polycarbonate and acrylic with a large increase in price to get acrylic. Is there a noticable difference in sound quality with acrylic over the poly? Any insights would be great.

RE: sound quality on calls???
I' ve blown a Folies Strait Meat Mallard call that is acrylic and retails for about $125. Foiles also has the Double Reed Legend call that has the same insert as the Strait Meat mallard with a little different design and is polycarbonate but is basically the same thing and retails for about $35. The difference in sound I noticed is that the acrylic call has a smoother, deeper, and all around nice flowing sound. The polycarbonate call has a sharper more raspy sound to it. Both are very good calls infact I exclusevly blow the Legend for ducks and for the price difference the Legend is al all around great duck call. I don' t know about other brands and that is just my experience and thought. Oh and the poly sounds like it kind of has an sharp echo to it in the main body of the call. I don' t know any other way of explaining it and the acrylic has more of a subtle echo.

RE: sound quality on calls???
i' d suggest a black ice call bout $20 bucks and well worth it, personally i use some ole cheapo wooden calls, have for years and they work great for me, just got a black ice call and like it alot have yet to give er a whirl in the field though its a poly.
guess bottom line is IMO its not the call its the caller and it depends on how much you want to spend wood is cheap but will swell in prime hunting wheather, poly is better and acrylic topline, i myself have not noticed any major difference in poly or acrylic so .....(with my wife monitoring my spending) i got a new poly.
on another note i bring 7 calls in with me and switch em up.... the more distinctly different sounds you can make the better off you are. In my experience i have much better results using mulpiple calls than just one or two....so i' d suggest buying 4 or 5 poly calls instead of 1 acrylic, I think you' ll have much better results.
i even have 2 woodie calls and a crow call i use sometimes( alot of crows where i hunt) it seems to relax the ducks sometimes..and bring em in
