Most who hunt geese I've known / read would say "don't bust the roost"!! By trying to hunt geese on the roost (water) you / they are only going to be successful pushing the geese out of the area sooner. Geese and ducks want places to roost where they feel safe. Leave them alone at their roost.
Rather, find out where the geese field feed in the evening before, get permission from the landowner (in most states required) to set up field decoys and hunt those fields the next morning. Hunt until ducks/geese are done flying out to feed in late morning, pick up, clean your birds, eat, take a nap and start scouting mid to later afternoon for the next day's location. You / they will be much more successful goose hunting this way (all else equal) and geese will stay around longer.

get permission from the farms surronding the lake, then scout the fields they are going to when they leave the lake to feed...hunt those fields and not the roost and you will be taking em out in body bags, also, you might end up chasing them off that lake. if you were getting shot at every time you were going to your couch you would find a new couch to rest on.
