It's now 50/50. Educate me please... Why would someone want to hunt Sandhill Crane? Does it have something to do with keeping their numbers low so they don't hit planes or something like that? They don't look to be very good eating.

Good question. I don't know about their numbers, but I was for it because it's something hunters elsewhere had the luxury or privilege to hunt. I also hear that they are very good eatin'.... hence the term "Ribeye from the sky". Actually the more common term is "Rib eye in the sky"... referring to it's good eating.

Also, I found a link that's from a hunter's point of view why he hunts them. Talks about how big they are and saw in another post elsewhere about how hard they are to bring down. I guess that makes sense when they are as tall as a man. LOL!

They are very good eating. Soups, stews, roasted breast, BBQed, and jerky just to name a few. Just breast out the crane and use any goose/duck recipe.
Plus, there is something to be said about shooting a 5ft tall bird.
