Congratulations on your new gun and welcome to the brotherhood, lets see if we cant get you some geese.
First off the fact that you have geese landing in the pond close to your property is both great and terrible at the same time. It's great for the obvious reason, its terrible for the fact that if you over hunt the fields next to this roosting location, the geese may be less inclined to come back. Now alot of people argue over this but I have seen it happen first hand. A farm I hunted when I was younger was loaded with geese in 3 ponds morning and evening, so naturally we took the easy way out and hunted close to the pond and in the pond ocassionally, by the end of that season the ponds were empty and it took nearly two years of no hunting to get the geese back there like they were the first year.
Now I'm not saying you shouldn't hunt it, I would just be very careful on how often and how many birds you are going to pass shoot.
Im not a fan of pass shooting cause the ones that get away rememeber that they have just been shot at and dont return. If you put a little more work into it and get the geese to decoy for you, you will have a more reliable hunting location.
Just some advice that i have gathered over the years, take what you want and GOOD LUCK
