i just got a new remington 870 SPS super magnum. its a 24 inch barrel. on the choke tube it says lead shot only. it is a turkey gun but i want to use it for waterfowl too. if i get a different choke tube would i be able to use steel shot? can i use steel shot with it now?

Steel shot is not recommended for a full choke and tighter. Did the gun only come with one choke? If you buya modified or looser choke you will be fine.

I have to assume the one choke that came with the gun is a full choke, which is ok for turkeys but i would probably buy a extra full choke. It is about $20 at walmart, or you can buy a more expensive one, it is up to you. I would also buy and Ic and a mod. Check them all and see how they pattern with the shells you use.

That should work fine for turkeys. You can probably go on ebay and find a set of F, m, ic.
