Default Question about retrieving ducks/geese in water.

So after a few years im pickin up duck/goose hunting, but im without a dog, i did have one and thats kind of why i fell out of it since she passed, but i just got permission on a wicked spot, problem is, its over a pond and the bottom is really boggy so wading is out of the question and its really shallow, the deepest spot is only like 3 feet deep apparently, so just wondering what i should do. Got a few ideas such as fishing rod with a big hook on the end, but i really dont like that idea, or just have an inflatable boat and just get them that way(but with it being so shallow i dont know how good that will work.

How accesssible is the pond? I don't have a dog and I do ok... I just make the wind in my face so the dead ducks float in to me.... then don't take more than a 30 yard shot... so you can follow up successfully

I just say fetch

But since you can't
I have seen a guy with a spinning rod and a piece of broom handle with a screw eye on 1 end
It had 8 - 6/0 or so trebbles on it ( BIG freaking hooks )
2 pairs on 4 sides

I laughed , but he didn't have any major problems snagging several dead ducks and a dead goose

I use a painters pole from Home Depot they have different lenghts they cost a little more and you can use it around the house for hard to reach spots it has a threaded end. My lab won.t fetch up but my jackrus will.

i have been hunting over water for the past 30 years and have yet to own a dog. a seven foot spinning rod and long cast spinning reel combo with a large floating rapala works great.
