Are mute swans edible?

First, I don't know about the laws on swans, they are considered waterfowl right? Are these species illegal to hunt? Are they even edible? I have never heard of eating a swan, but they are waterfowl right?

They are considered invasive in MD. How come no action is taken?

In VA...you have to apply and be drawn for a TS tag. Success rates are pretty good....I've only missed once. I'm not sure what the deal is down here on mutes....I think its kind of the same story as in MD. I know Tundra's are edible.

Whistlers aren't to bad either . Its real hard to pick out that line on the bill at 40 yrds . Haffta draw a tag out here too . Understood that farther north there were seasons trying to get worked out . I had heard that one state want to treat them as a nusence spieces and "harvest" them all as most are non-migratory now . Migritory fowl act got in the way .

Whether or not you can shoot mute swans is up to the individual states laws. As to whether or not they are edible they are absolutley edible and delicious. When I used to raise them sometimes I had extra males (Cob) that did not sell. I butchered these and can tell you they are delicious.
