Hey guys, in my area crow hunting is open season, and a half hour away from where I live, fields are just covered in them. Anyone no if I need alot of decoys to bring these birds down? I got a call, but Im thinking of buying a few decoys, maybe like 8 or 9. let me know, thanks.

I know a couple guys that are pretty serious about theyre crow killing. They cut silo's out of wood and spray paint them black. They use about 50 of them and an owl decoy or 2 and an E-caller,, they kill a thousand plus every winter out near essex. When you start dropping them start setting them up as decoys,, easy to go through a hundred shells in an outing.

I use about 10 decoys and an owl. I usally never mouth call, just use an electronic caller, with the crow and owl fight cassette(sometimes the crow frenzy tape). I was suprised when i started hunting them how weary they sometimes get. I set up my waterfowl layout blinds(these work awesome) good luck!!

I've had the best results with the run and gun method in my area. During the spring, summer and fall the crows are all in family groups so I use the run and gun method then but in the winter I usually set up 3-4 decoys and an owl decoy and I always use a electronic caller. But they get smart quick

I wenttwice using an electronic call. They came in quick, but you get one chance becausethey won't be back! The key is to set up on a migratory route. That way there are always fresh bodies who aren't educated to your setup. My guess is they get hunted so infrequently, any NEW birds will be more prone to coming in than geese or ducks that get hunted all over.

The area he is talking about is a MAJOR winterring area,, I believe they estimate about 50,000 winter within about a 10 mile radius. There is so many,, the local town hires a guy just too chase them out of town at night when they come in too roost.

Owl decoys work really good for crows,, they are a natural enemy and fight like crazy. If a crow sees one, it will harass it and call for more crows too join in the fight.

The guys I know that hunt them,, have best luck the last 2 hours before dark, they set theyre decoys, turn on an e-caller and they can get them too come in even when they are banging away,, I think theyre record is just over 200 in a couple hours right before dark.

Gooseslayer..To answer your question, 10 or 12 crow decoys will do you just fine...If you want more, just set up dead crows as you shoot them... An owl is OK, but you don't really need it, and with an owl and an e- call you may end up with every crow in the area over your head at once, and then they'll be gone.. IMHO it is much preferable to simulate a feeding setup along a flyway and decoy in birds a few at a time, in smaller groups that you can handle... A hand call or e-call is handy at times, but you can decoy in and kill lots of crows with just decoys in the right spot.. Just like ducks and geese...Put the dekes in the right place and get well hidden ( cause they sure ain't BLIND) and you should get plenty of shooting..

ok so ill make a few silouettes and get a tape with crows fighting and owl. so how do i set these birds up. like geese? or kinda tight together? if im setup in a tree like, put my silo's in the field, and where to I put my owl?

Just around them. Just put them in a blob with the owl in the middle. Motion decoys like the one on the crowbuster website are supposed to be deadly!
