What kind of shells are you using? Federal shells in my gun my crip rate goes up, Fasteelit goes WAY down!
A buddy hunts everything with 3.5" ammo, he keeps ragging on me too buy a 3.5" gun. I dont need one, I kill birds just asdead as he does!

Bring 'em in close and shoot an open choke. If you hit them full pattern with steel, they'll fold. I had decent performance from 3" Fed BBB & BB @1450fps, but the Win Xpert 3" BB @1550 crushed 'em
It tookme a few shots to get used to not lead them so much and shoot themin the face. Try it and see.
If you're into the "bigboys" they might take a2nd shot to keep them from sailing. My friends in Sask, tell me the firstone lets the honkers knowyou're there, the secondlet'se'm know you mean business.

early season 3" #4 remington or federal 1550fps - fine on ducks, never had a problem. later in the season #2s and hevi-steel and kent fasteel #2 as a second shot. no problems if you call them close and know where to shoot.

I use winchester hi-velocity 3" #2's thats the shell that patterns the best out of my browning bps. I use a modified choke. JoeA was right you have to learn not to lead'em as far with shot that is 1550 fps.

maybe out of range just a bit ??? or not leadin the bird enuff ?? i know i shoot quite a few birds each season with steel ... and altho i have had birds fly off after being hit (what seems) hard .... im startin to believe i just didnt lead the birds enuff ..... i cant afford to shoot bismuth, tungsten, etc ....as like i said earlier ... i do quite a bit of shootin durin an average season .. im not sure if ya a beginin hunter or not ... but next time ya have a goose in hand ... feel how thick the feathers are on the underside of the bird and ya will get an idea of why ya shot may not penetrate well at longer ranges .... then feel the neck and head .... a big difference !!

I use a 3&1/2'' BBB or T's for geese. It knocks the hell out of them. Everyone is right u gotta head shoot them. For ducks I use the 3 & 1/2'' Kent tungsten impact's. Last yr. they got a little expensive on me but they are great shells. For a good steel load I would recommend the Remington Nitro Steel magnums. I use a modified choke always when hunting for waterfowl unless pond hunting then use the improved cyl.

if you are shooting winchester high velocity then you need to switc to a different shell. I just barely took apart a 3" 2 shot winchester hv. And all the pellets are deformed there are about 2 or 3 that are round. The rest look like eggs and what not. I mean how can those things fly straight. no wonder you are not hitting anything all I can say is switch to fasteel
