Identify A Teal
Whats tips or tricks do you guys who have an early September Teal season use to identify flying green and blue wingers? This will be my 5th waterfowl season and my 1st trying out the early teal season. I'm not the best at identifying ducks in flight.

RE: Identify A Teal
Lets make it easy for ya. It takes three people to hunt teal. One to say here they come, another to stand up and shoot, and the third guy to say there they go!! That little fighter squadron moves across those shallows brother! Good luck though

Yeah, I think it goes withotu saying that they are FAST and small, but lots of times the like to fly reeeally low to the water, and lots of times they won't really decoy, but they'll buzz right over the tops of the decoys just taking a look.

Very fast wing beat, lower to the water than say Malls. In proportion to their body their necks are relatively long and short butt compared to Wood Ducks, which also fly fast. Woodys have a shorter neck and butt that stick out.
Teal seem to fly more erratic and quicker than you'd imagine. I think of them a mini F16 fighters coming for a fight.
They're also probably the smallest ducks you'll run into in your area that time of the year anyway.
Here is a link to 1 site I searched and found. You may be able to find better. http://members.cox.net/azwildlife/Identifywaterfowl.htm#Blue-Winged%20Teal
Good luck!
