Default Clear Plastic as water?

In a conversation with an old codger at breakfast. He said long ago when he used goose hunt he would place clear plastic down in corn fields to fool geese into thinking there was water. He said it looks like water from up above. Has anyone ever heard of this and does this really work. Seems to me it would have to be a pretty big piece of plastic or would the looks of a small watering hole be effective.

I'd think that it might work.

I have never heard of claer plastic, but along the same lines, I have heard of using black tarps on iced over lakes to simulate open water. People say that it works pretty good.

I have used black plastic on ice and silly as it sounds it does work. You must put enough decoys around the edge to keep it from blowing and just a few in the center like 2 or 3. They may or may not land but they will come close enough for you to make easy killing shots.

Never done it but heard it works, even is recommended in Erwin Bower's "Waterfowler's Bible". Try it out and let us know how successful you were.

Either clear or black plastic it would be funny watching them land. See a big honker wings cupped, feet out, then wamo.
