Default DECOY HELP!

going ot for opening day duck in Ontario, Canada this Saturday. Have bought a dozen duck decoys. These are weighted decoys. My question is how do I use them? Do I need to tie them to something or do i just throw them in the water? never used decoys before. sorry for the dumb question. ANY help is appreciated.

There are alot of different ways to rig decoys. The most basic is get some type of twine, string or cord and tie on a weight. cut your string to the depth of water you are hunting and then add a foot or two. You really dont need that much weight per decoy, about a 4oz weight ought to do it. Hope this helps

if you can get some sort of line like "tanglefree" it would be much better than twine or string. the tanglefree is alot like weedeater line.

Go to some ponds of lakes around you. See how the ducks sit when they are comfortable and resting. Try to replicate that with your decoys. Sometimes we set farthest decoy about 30 paces out. That way we know about where our range ends. If the duck is inside the decoys then we can shoot, outside and we don't.

Good luck!

If you decide to go with a tanglefree type of line, be sure that it is the original tanglefree brand. All of the othe brands that i have seen seem to get brittle when the temp goes below the freezing point.
