I know this is a little off topic (hunting) but I was given some paintings done in 1894 or 1896 of some birds on wooden plaques.
I am hoping that someone may be able to identify them to help determine where the paintings were done.
Tx for any input.

Try looking in a field guide for N.America. The large bird in the bottom image looks a whole lot like a woodcock. As for the other smaller birds-not sure. The upwards facing bird in the top image-maybe a Ruby crowned kinglet? These birds may have such a large range, that pinning dwon where they were painted may be near impossible.

I'd say woodcock on the bottom, or at least looks very much like one. The rest I am not really sure though. Welcome to the board too.

I will give it another try: Bottom - woodcock - hen pine Grosbeak - Poss. male pine Grosbeak
Top - passenger pigeon - male pine Grosbeak - and the top bird I don't know. I have seen photos but am thinking it is not native to the US.
These photos depict English styles that I have seen and if I remember right "game hanging" was or maybe still is the thing to do.

I agree the one looks like a woodcock, The other smaller ones appear to resemble possibly finches? Will have my wife take a look at them as shes pretty tenacius at identifing species of plants and birds.

I think these may be European birds. The bottom picture seems to be a Eurasian woodcock which is almost twice the size of an American woodcock with different coloration. Possibly the top big bird is a wood pigeon but the beak does not really look like the pigeon family.
