In your opinion what is the best over and under shotgun for under 1000? I am kinda in the market for one but dont go bird hunting enough to drop real big bucks on one. Any opinions?

Unless you find a Beretta, Browning etc. for under a grand, don't expect too much. You get what you pay for when it comes to O/U's ! However, if you're only going to hunt a handful of times per season, and don't plan on shooting trap or skeet, a lesser gun may just work for you. You probably won't be handing such a gun down to your kids though.

I would also buy a used higher quality O/U before buying an off brand, I agree you get what you pay for, and buying a higher quality shotgun also retains its value better. I have seen the Ruger Red Label new for right around a $1000

I believe Franchi is seperate from Beretta, although they are part of the Benelli family. The Alcione is an excellent looking gun and very well made. I looked into getting one a while back, but they didn't offer it in 20 ga, unless you got the 2-barrel set. So, already owning a 12 ga O/U -- and not willing to spend over 2-grand for the 2-barrel set -- I opted not to get one. The interchangeable side-plates are beautiful though.
