Default Dog pointed on a yote.

Damnest thing happened today while pheasant hunting. A buddy and me were hunting a big brome grass CRP field. We both have Brits. Mine goes on point, I walk in and out busts a yote. It runs my buddy' s way and he hammered it. The pheasant load with 6' s dropped that dog right now. It was a good looking, healthy sized yote. What' s realy odd is we had already hunted that area earlier in the morning.

You can see the dog checking out the downed yote in the picture. Can' t see much of the yote though.

When I was training one particularly big running and hardheaded brit in the high plains, we always had to watch him around coyote areas. He would find them, give chase and fall right into the whole coyote scheme of trying to catch him and, after tiring the yoets show up to help finish the dog off.

Coyotes are being protected where I live now. Ridiculous. They are the absolute toughest, smartest and most resourceful predator/scavenger in the US. We wiped out the wolves, mountain lions and bears, but never even came close to exterminating the coyote. Population control needs to be a regular thing on coyotes... (preaching to the choir)

That doesn' t completely surprise me, a little that the coyote didn' t flee from the area before everyone got close enough to " flush" him, but my short hairs have pointed racoon, skunk, porcipine, and snakes! Like I said, I' m more surprised that the coyote layed there long enough that everyone got that close.

Howler, We thought the same thing. We were headed to another area, walking along talking, not being quite at all. Every coyote I' ve ever seen takes off at light speed when it hears, smells or sees a human. All I can think is maybe it was napping.
