i have a box of # 6 shot for pheasant that is high brass and two boxes of the same shells but low brass ive heard that the low brass wont work is that true

IMO you can get away with Low brass if you are shooting pointed (close range) and early season birds, but as cold weather toughens them up and they start getting spooky and flushing from longer ranges......high brass

From a high level - generally, the shells with lower brass have less gun powder... Which translates into less 'power' downfield....

Sometimes I'll use a shell like that for my first shot (in the chamber while walking) and then back it up with some heavier loads....

I was thinking of switching to the same thing in size 4 late next month.

Use enough gun! I have hunted pheasants for 26 years and they are as tough as they come...use the low brass for rabbits and stick to the hotter shotgun fodder for birds. Nothing is worse then loosing a bird you knocked downbut didn't kill.

you can use low brass for pheasants.

here is what you have to do,use only FULL CHOKE and dont shoot over 35 yards.
i have killed birds over 35 with low brass, heck 50 years ago they did not have to much HIGH BRASS shells, most were low brass.

if you dont use full choke, dont use low brass..........
