Walk Slow very slow along a street or downtown area. Blow the quail call ever time you get to an intersection.
I Know that some of you have never even seen a quail before much less hunted them.
You will need to watch a whole lot more TV shows before you give advice on quail hunting

Thanks for the joke !
I know i haven't hunted quail but, I have hunted grouse and without any calls as a young fellow growing up. For the grouse after hunting them long enough without dogs. You develope a nack on what to look for such as food and cover that they seem to like best. The more I had hunted the more i learned about it. I can't say this is true for quail but I think it would be something along those lines. Plus quail communicate with each other and rough grouse up here do not. Good Luck!

you might need some more people if there is just the two of you. it takes lots of people moving in a line to push a covey of quail out of thick cover. also do some scouting before hunting and listen for quail calls to locate the general area that they are in. that might be a better tactic for you and your son to do. the key items a covey of quail need is shelter, water and a reliable food source. look for those areas and you should be golden.i raise quail so i know these things.

we would rather hunt without guns than without dogs in SD. not only do you get more birds up, you will find more injured birds.
go to an outfitter who has dogs if you can't have them
or, go road hunting
